I will post some photos over the next few days
Here is the damage from our accident.

Alright, after being home for almost a week it's time for the statistics.  On this trip we:
  • traveled 6886 miles
  • burned 499 gallons of gasoline
  • averaged 13.8 miles per gallon
  • bought gasoline 31 times ranging from $3.17/gallon to $4.07/gallon (you can calculate the cost of driving a truck and camper yourself - if you so desire!)
We had a fantastic time and met some wonderful people.  I think we all agree it will be a while until we try a trip like this again (no earlier than next summer ;-) !)

See ya'!

We've made it home! Actually we made it home yesterday, but after parking the trailer, unloading the truck, and starting a load of laundry I was way too tired to blog.  We drove a total of 6886 miles, and that doesn't include our time in Hawaii.  If you want an idea of how far that is, we could have almost traveled to Caracas, Venezuela and back or going one way to Beijing, China.
We were gone for 25 days but taking out 8 days in Hawaii means we averaged over 400 miles a day (no wonder we were tired)!  I haven't calculated the amount of gasoline we used (or how much it cost) or my mpg but I'm sure we weren't very fuel efficient.  The good news is we are home safe and sound.  We saw a lot of great things, some of which I will try to share with you in photos over the next few days.

Today was a long day.  We drove from Cheyenne Wyoming to Independence Missouri and arrived at our hotel (yes hotel) at 9:30 PM. We have 2 queen beds one of which I am about to use.  Nashville tomorrow. Goodnight!

Tonight we are in Cheyenne WY. We traveled through some magnificent country starting east on I-84 and continuing on I-80 up and over the Rocky Mountains.  Some of you may have heard about a wildfire near Salt Lake City yesterday.  We actually saw the smoke from it when we were on the south side of the city.  This morning's paper said that at least 900 people had been evacuated and the fire was not yet contained.  We received a little bit of rain just before we arrived in Cheyenne, but it was barely enough to went the top layer of ground.  This wildfire stuff is really serious, they need rain in a bad way.  On a similiar note we heard that Nashville had a high of 108 degrees today.  Sometimes we wonder why we are headed back since it is in the low 80's with low humidity here.  We have used blankets every night out here!
Since we ARE in Cheyenne, we had to have steaks tonight.  We highly recommend T-Joe's.  It's possibly the closest we'll get to a roadhouse, without going with Mark Klassen, and the steaks were delicious.  Andy said they were even better than the Big Texan (that's some praise)! This may be our last night camping.  We are going to try to make it to Kansas City tomorrow night and home the next day.
